LOS ANGELES and SAN FRANCISCO , Nov. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Credit Karma today announced it has established a long-term presence in the Los Angeles area. Founded in San Francisco in 2007, this marks the first expansion in California for the personal finance company.

"Our expansion to the Los Angeles area was an easy decision for us. Los Angeles and 'Silicon Beach' have a deep bench of technical talent. We're excited about the team we can build there," said Credit Karma Founder and CEO Kenneth Lin . "At Credit Karma we're focused on helping everyone — no matter who they are — make financial progress, which aligns well with the values of Southern Californians."

Credit Karma has a team of software engineers based in the Los Angeles area already. The company plans to hire additional staff, mostly software engineers, in the coming months. This team will focus on new business initiatives, including expanding Credit Karma's existing offerings in auto loans and auto insurance.

With its most recent valuation of $3.5 billion , Credit Karma is the highest-valued venture-backed personal finance company in the world. The expansion comes as the company enjoys incredible growth in membership and its total number of employees, which recently topped 500.

Karma Revero Caught Testing in Los Angeles

A lthough we got our first look at the reborn Fisker Karma last month, there were many indicators that the Karma Revero was not entirely ready for prime time, not the least of which was the vague launch timeframe. This nearly finished prototype that we recently spotted on the 405 (in traffic, of course) lends credence to that theory.

The front end is sans camo, but it is also missing the chrome grille inserts and radar sensor caps, and badge. The parts that are wearing camo are the front fenders, doors, rocker panels, and rear fascia, hinting that the design of these pieces is not yet finalized — possibly pending crash test results. The rear badge is missing as well. A Brembo badge is visible on the front brake caliper and this tester has a brown-on-brown interior.

If regulatory hurdles are all that stands between the Revero and the marketplace, then the 12-month launch timeframe alluded to at last month’s event could be real, but we’ve heard that one before. Whenever the Revero does arrive, if ever, it will carry the same powertrain it did when it was still, well, the Karma: a pair of electric motors good for as much as 403 hp and 959 lb-ft of torque backed by a 2.0-liter I-4 range extender sourced from GM. Range will remain at 300 miles – 50 on a full charge and 250 with help from the gasoline engine.
